Welcome to Midland Park, the "MODERN PLACE TO LIVE". Midland Park is a modernist heritage district located in Toronto, Canada. In 1959, Developer, Curran Hall and Architect, Ted Ross designed and built a residential development characterized by mid-century modern architecture and planning principles. The modernist homes in Midland Park have stood essentially unaltered thanks to its residents who have respected the original modernist attributes, making it a Toronto rarity: an award winning, intact Atomic Age neighbourhood.

The Midland Park community is nominated to become a Heritage Conservation District (HCD). The nomination is currently under review by the City of Toronto. If this designation is achieved, Midland Park will have the honourable distinction of becoming just the 2nd Mid-20th Century Modern Heritage Conservation District in Canada.
|
Why do we have HCDs in Toronto?
"HCDs are maintained so that every Torontonian, present and future, can appreciate and take pride in the City’s rich cultural heritage". HCDs do not protect the colour of your front door... They serve to ensure that the character of a historically significant neighbourhood is protected. |

MID-20th CENTURY MODERN ARCHITECTURE
Mid-century modern architecture was employed in residential structures with the goal of bringing modernism into America's post-war suburbs. During the 40's - 60's, a time of economic growth and high spirits gave way to a progressive housing design era. The mid-century modern movement brought simple designs that rebelled against the excessive ornamentation of the Victorian style and a reaction to industrialization.

The Midland Park Modernism Alliance was founded in 2011. Our mandate is to be a resource with a mission for the documentation, preservation, and promotion of the mid-century modern houses of the Midland Park community located in Toronto, Canada. Our objective is to create awareness and build public appreciation and support for the distinctive historic character of this 1960s community. A half century later, the world has a perspective to appreciate these houses as a product of their time and it is our motivation to share and celebrate these houses of the Atomic Age.
